Lil’ Devil

I’d been following the buzz for quite some time and getting really excited about the release of Lil’ Devil. This game had promised to be a worthy sequel to one of my favourite games, “Danger High Voltage”, and those were big shoes to fill! The game is initially in a period of exclusivity, between Online Casinos Betfair and Paddy Power. Luckily, following our review of Betfair, I already had an account setup. I couldn’t wait to get started!
The game really does build upon the ideas and features of “Danger High Voltage”, with a six-reel layout offering 4096 paylines. The feature is triggered by landing three or more scatter symbols in view. These symbols look like burning shacks! (And compliment the great soundtrack that bangs out during the bonus.) Triggering the bonus with three scatters takes to you to a screen where you can choose one of two features, which mirror the feature choices that were available in Danger High Voltage. The left feature, “Be My Angel”, chooses one symbol that will then become a sticky wild on reels 2 to 5. A low paying symbol is what you want here, as it appears more frequently, and these wilds will hold over for all of the 7 spins. 4 sticky wilds on the one reel will trigger 3 additional spins. This feature looks like it has some potential to go huge! And I’m sure it’s only a matter of time before we see pictures of those middle reels peppered with wilds. The right hand feature, “Dynamite Lover”, moves further from the Danger High Voltage influence. In this feature, you get 12 free spins and wilds on the middle two reels which will increase with each win they are associated with. The feature can be re-triggered by landing the scatter symbols in view again, and I think this bonus, too, has great potential. The secret here will be to get the multiplier high enough–to maybe x7 or above–and then to have the wilds land in both available positions. This will then multiply the win twice, and just one win going all the way across could be really big!

In a nice twist upon the bonus trigger, which itself is exactly what we have seen in “Danger High Voltage”: landing just two of the bonus scatters will award a heart symbol. This builds upon the idea of the “heart stopper” spin, where we anticipate the landing of the third symbol to trigger the bonus, but it doesn’t come. Collecting 40 hearts awards the same bonus feature choice as landing three scatters in view, but now–both choices are upgraded. Now, when you choose the “Be My Angel” feature, not only are you awarded one random symbol as a sticky wild, but the top symbol will also count. It doesn’t make the feature twice as good (as the hearts themselves don’t feature as much as the other symbols–think back to landing the Skull in Danger High Voltage), but it certainly improves the feature and makes it much easier to re-trigger the bonus. The upgrade to “Dynamite Lover” sees the multiplier start at x5, so just a few hits involving those wilds would give you the potential to hit something really massive!
I’ve really enjoyed playing Lil’ Devil so far. It’s entertaining, and I’m always impressed that Big Time gaming manage to give each of their slots a really unique feel. A lot of the potential is obviously tied up in the bonuses and, as such, it can get expensive–so choose your stake wisely. However, this also means that you could land a bonus off just a few spins and really get paid! The collecting of the hearts is a nice little touch, and I like that they’re thinking about their returning customers. Maybe it will take you weeks or months to build towards the 40 hearts, but it certainly keeps things interesting!
